What Do You Name Him
Naming Jesus
- Tim McConnell
Dec. 24
Joseph and Mary had to make a choice. They were ordered to name this child Jesus, but in the end it was up to them. They brought their baby boy to the Temple to be presented on the eighth day. It was more than a circumcision, the b’rit milah was a naming ceremony as well. The infant is presented to the community of faith. What shall we call him? They named him Jesus. Simeon the priest said, “I have seen the salvation of God.” This is the infant messiah. Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. What you name Jesus in your life is the single most important question you will ever answer. The most important thing about a person is who they think God is, who they think Jesus is. To name Jesus is to recognize that Jesus is Savior. To name Jesus is to submit yourself to Jesus as Lord. Have you named Jesus? Will you name Jesus tonight in your life?
