Awake
Awake to Politics
- Michael Thornton
May. 15
Politics can take over everything. When we put on the lens of politics, it can take over our view of economics, race, sexuality, religion—even, as we saw last year, medicine and science! Politics is simply the way we dialogue with one another about the best way to live together, to find the most good for the most people over the most time. Keep it in perspective. We have two parties with competing ideas for the common good, both of which are seated in the greatest democratic system the world has ever known. We have it pretty good in comparison to world history. Jesus put politics in its place with one sentence. “Render to Caesar…” As simple as this saying is, it was also one of the most revolutionary statements ever made and laid the foundation for Western Civilization. Jesus shows us a healthy relationship to politics and money.
