Welcome to Of Thee I Sing!

Each year as a gift to our city and as an act of gratitude for our nation, First Pres is pleased to offer this concert of worship and reflection. It is a privilege to bring our very best to give thanks to God for the blessing of living in a country of freedom and prosperity where we strive to pursue the common good for every citizen with open arms to all. We’re excited to introduce the talented musicians performing today—take a moment to learn more about them below.

Rod Gorby

Dr. Roderick Gorby is a well-rounded musician, an accomplished organist, pianist, composer and arranger whose recent accomplishments includes the premiere of two movements of his virtuosic organ concerto “An American Tone Poem” with the Chamber Symphony of the Springs.

Rod enjoys working with musicians of all ages and has co-directed children’s musicals, led a children’s choir and has assisted in directing one of the largest choirs in Colorado Springs.

Rod is passionate about both teaching and learning. While living in Central Florida he started and maintained a large private piano studio, and over the course of his teaching career he has taught students from age 2, to pre-college, to age 70! He earned his Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University in music theory and composition where he also earned a second masters degree in organ performance. Rod has studied organ performance at the graduate level at the Juilliard School under John Weaver.

Rod’s family includes his wife Mandy, son Connor, dogs, chickens and bees!
