You found the digital companion to the First Pres Advent Devotional. In addition to reading devotionals, we want to engage with God’s great rescue plan by inviting you to sing it, hear it, see it and retell it as the great rescue unfolds in our lives.

Advent Devotional

Retell It

Open your eyes and ears, and also your heart. Let the practice of telling again the story of God’s rescue open your heart to more and more expectation. As you do, you are letting every heart prepare Him room. Do not grow weary of telling and lighting candles and serving those God puts in front of you. Our hope is in the coming of the Lord.

Leader: May the Lord’s love shine in our hearts.

ALL: And may His peace be with us all.

Leader: The Lord is our faith and our life.

ALL: Our hope is in the coming of the Lord.

(Light two purple candles, and one rose candle)

Leader: Let us pray that we may grow in love for each other as the Lord comes to us. (Any additional prayer as desired.)

ALL: Amen.

Hear It

Hear Psalm 40 read over you and be washed by it. This is the text for devotional day 18. Christ is our help and our deliverer.

Listen to Love Comes Down by Audrey Assad as performed by Chris Cullins. Hear it and cling to the truth: may God’s sweet, amazing grace wrap you in a warm embrace.

Psalm 40 Love Comes Down

See It

Image inspired by upcoming hymn, Go Tell it on the Mountain. Whispers of rescue are in every nook and cranny of those canyons. The whole created order is invited to rest in God.

Sing It

We have a call and response to each other in the song, What Child is This? What child is this? This is Christ the King, our rescue. As you sing along, keep asking, What child is this? Keep asking and keep looking for the response of rescue in the nooks and crannies of your life. On Sunday, we will sing Go Tell it On the Mountain, training our hearts to go tell it in the nooks and crannies of our city that Jesus Christ is born.
